The Nintendo YouTube channel uploaded the a new Nintendo Direct for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. The video opened and announced this would be the last video update for downloadable content for the game, which came out October 3, 2014 for 3DS and November 21, 2014 for the Wii U. This video announced the last wave of sporadic announcements of downloadable content that have come out over this year. In this last wave we are getting three new characters and two new stages.
Let’s start with the first of the new characters we are getting. Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy 7 and his giant buster sword are coming to the game. Most of his moves are with buster sword and he has powerful striking movements. This is a big deal because Final Fantasy is a Sony/ PlayStation franchise, and for the two companies to get together and work on bringing one of Final Fantasy‘s most famous characters is a great endeavor on their part. Not only is Cloud coming to Super Smash Bros. but the Final Fantasy 7 re-release is also coming out soon.
He is available to download with his special stage, Midgar. Midgar is where the journey begins in Final Fantasy, so of course he will be bringing this stage. The stage is a standard platform with three floating platforms design, but the way it differs is that you can summon monsters to help you and be stage hazards with the summon crystals. This stage is insanely awesome given the basic stage design.
Our next fighter is joining us from the land of Fire Emblem, joining the ranks of Marth, Roy, Ike, Robin, and Lucina. We are now getting the half dragon fighter Corrin. Corrin can be played as either male or female, just like how you play Fire Emblem games. Corrin is a prince or princess of Hoshido, but was kidnapped as an infant and raised by the royalty of the opposing kingdom, Nohr.
As a member of the Hoshido royal family, Corrin has the ability to transform into a dragon, as well as the ability to modify the in-game map using Dragon’s Vein. Corrin also wields the sword Yato. Corrin appears in Fire Emblem Fates, which has yet to come out, so you can’t get Corrin on Smash Bros. until February. Corrin’s attacks feature him/her turning into a dragon and has great striking range and quick attacks.
The next fighter is the fighter who won the Smash Bros. fighter ballot that was voted on worldwide: Bayonetta from the games Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2. When Bayonetta fights, she summons limbs of a giant demon to attack her enemies. She also has guns on all of her limbs, one in each hand, and one attached to each of her heels. She even has an attack that slows down her enemies.
Bayonetta is a witch and some of the graphics used in her game are also included in her character design. She is bundled with a stage called Umbra Clock Tower. The clock tower is a falling platform and sometimes a new platform will come floating in to help players have a better advantage.
Bayonetta and Umbra Clock Tower will be available for download in February 2016.
So as of February 2016, all of the Super Smash Bros. Downloadable Content will be available for download. I think these last three characters will be amazing new additions to the already awesome character list and I wait to fight as them.
