THE INCREDIBLES 2 Is On Its Way, Along with CARS 3
It’s finally happening. After yesterday’s announcement that The Incredibles would be re-released in 3D theaters, Disney exec Bob Iger confirmed that the company is moving forward with The Incredibles 2 and Cars 3.
In the same shareholders meeting wherein he announced that Star Wars would begin shooting in May, Iger says Brad Bird is currently working on a script in the wake of his work on Tomorrowland. It’s news that many fans of the original have been eagerly anticipating since the original was released to $631 million success in 2004. But Bird had always demurred, saying he didn’t want to make a sequel for the sake of a sequel, but make sure he had a good story to tell before moving forward.
Along with The Incredibles in 3D, Disney will re-release Ratatouille, Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., and Finding Nemo in 3D as well. The Nemo sequel, Finding Dory, is planned for a 2016 release.
Cars 3 follows in the wake of Cars 2, which didn’t perform as well as the original, but led to Planes and Cars Land at the theme parks, so it’s still a solid enough property that Disney feels there’s more story potential there. Perhaps Samuel L. Jackson could voice an ice cream truck named FroZone?
