The English born Mbatha-Raw was recently seen in Free State of Jones with Matthew McConaughey and Concussion with Will Smith. She will be joining A-listers Oprah Winfery, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling, as well as young rising actress, Storm Reid.
Frozen writer and co-director Jennifer Lee is penning the screen adaptation about Meg Wallace (Reid), a teenager troubled by the disappearance of her scientist father years earlier. With Charles, her 5-year-old genius brother, and Calvin, a classmate, she travels through time and visits strange worlds to try to find him. Mbatha-Raw will play Dr Murry, Meg and Charles’ mother. She and her missing husband come up with the notion of the wrinkle in time which caused him to vanish.
A Wrinkle in Time is the first book in L’Engle’s Time Quintet Series. It is followed by A Wind in the Door, Many Waters, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, and An Acceptable Time.
Next up for Mbatha-Raw is the J J Abrams produced God Particle in February 2017 and Beauty and the Beast, as Plumette, in March 2017.
A Wrinkle in Time will begin filming late fall in Atlanta.
