Alicia Vikander is the New Lara Croft
The world has a new Lara Croft, and her name is Alicia Vikander.
The Tomb Raider reboot from MGM, Warner Bros and GK Films will star Vikander as a young Croft in her first adventure in a reboot similar to what Square Enix did with the video game itself a few years back.
Vikander beat out a group of contenders that included Daisy Ridley, Cara Delevigne, Emilia Clarke and Saoirse Ronan. Sources tell Variety that she has been an early first choice, and that the announcement was delayed while a new draft of the script was written. Vikander’s star has certainly been on the rise since her performance in Ex Machina and her Oscar-winning turn in The Danish Girl.
Roar Uthaug is set to direct, with Graham King producing for his GK Films, which obtained the film rights to the video game in 2011. The film will reboot the franchise after two outings for Angelina Jolie in the role.
