The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Marvel is developing a TV series centered around Agent Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell in Captain America and her own one-shot short, which is included on the Iron Man 3 Blu-Ray/DVD. No word on whether Atwell would return, although it’s likely.
This news comes just as Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is about to hit prime-time on ABC, and it follows what could be a pattern for Marvel — one shot leading to series. Recall that S.H.I.E.L.D. was announced as a series after several one shot films, the most recent being Item 47. And with recent comments by studio head Louis D’Esposito about female-led stories, this actually makes a good bit of sense for Marvel to make an investment in such a story for television.
Given that Carter’s niece Sharon will show up in the Captain America sequel (Agent 13 played by Emily VanKamp), and as Carter has become a fan favorite in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this seems like a no-brainer for development. Nothing has been confirmed outside of the show being in development, but it’s likely to find a home on ABC, as both are owned by Disney.
No details on plot, but figure it to be a World War II era Alias?
