ABC Moves Forward with S.H.I.E.L.D.

Deadline is reporting that ABC has ordered a pilot from Joss Whedon. The subject of rumors for many weeks since the announcement of Whedon’s involvement in the overall Marvel Cinematic Universe, the announcement confirms that the TV series will focus on S.H.I.E.L.D.

The script will be written by Whedon, along with his frequent collaborators: his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. According to the article, production will begin immediately. This is a big change from the path the Hulk series has taken — from announcement to… where?

The project has been in the works for a while, between ABC Studios and Marvel (both owned by Disney). Did the Whedon deal finally make the project worth the green light?

Given Wedon’s track record on TV, it seems like the series will start strong. Certainly, fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly will be there. And since this series won’t be on Fox, maybe it has a chance of getting past 13 episodes.

So, which agents will be featured? And how will this tie in with the recent short Item 47? Or will it? And will David Hasselhoff show up as Nick Fury, Senior?
