TREMORS Reboot Orders Up Bacon
One year ago, Don Michael Paul, the director of Tremors 5: Bloodlines, posted that he was on his way to Johannesburg, South Africa to reboot the Tremors franchise. While that never materialized, there’s now a new reboot project underway, and it comes with Bacon.
Kevin Bacon, who starred in the original 1990 film as Valentine McKee opposite Fred Ward and Reba McIntyre, is set to executive produce and star in a new television series from Universal Cable Productions and Blumhouse Productions. Andrew Miller (The Secret Circle) is on board to write the adaptaion.
Bacon will reprise his role, and the story will take place once again in Perfection, Nevada.
Earlier this year, in an interview with the British newspaper Metro, Bacon said, “I’d love to do something else with Tremors and revisit the character 25 years later.” Bacon was not involved in any of the sequels or the 13-episode television series that ran on the Sci Fi Channel. “Part of what’s great about that movie is there are next to no digital effects. The monsters are done with puppetry, and it’s still off, funny and scary — it’s a cool accomplishment.”
The original movie grossed $16.6 million in the United States, with four direct-to-video sequels and the subsequent series. No word on if any other members of previous casts will be involved to face the Graboids once again.
