The remake of It, based on the novel by Stephen King, now has Pennywise in place. Bill Skarsgård will play the villain clown in New Line’s upcoming adaptation.

Headshot_BillSkarsgårdSkarsgård, one of the leads in Hemlock Grove on Netflix, has also appeared in the Divergent series of films. He’s the son of Stellan Skarsgård, who plays Erik Selvig in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Brother Alexander will appear as the newest incarnation of Tarzan this year.

The project has seen its share of ups and downs already, with Mama director Andres Muschietti coming on board after the departure of Cary Fukunaga. Skarsgård comes to the Pennywise role after scheduling conflicts caused Will Poulter to leave the project (SciFi4Me reported on his casting here).

The film project will break the novel into two parts, following the Losers Club first as children face “It” (movie #1) and then as they band together again as adults, even though they have no memory of the first encounter with Pennywise (movie #2).

Part one of the new It will hit theaters September 8, 2017.
