Fresh off of working together on La La Land, Ryan Gosling and Damien Chazelle will re-team for Universal’s First Man, a biographical film about astronaut Neil Armstrong.

200px-firstmancoverAccording to reports, Gosling has closed a deal to star in the film, adapted from First Man: A Life of Neil Armstrong by James Hansen, chronicling Armstrong’s career from Navy bomber pilot to test pilot to astronaut. The film will focus on the mission to the moon and an exploration of the “sacrifices and the cost — on Armstrong and on America — of one of the most dangerous space missions in history.”

Chazelle has been attached as director since 2015, when the project was at Warner Bros. Clint Eastwood was originally set to produce and direct, but then the project moved to Universal. Gosling has been circling the role for nearly that long, but only recently has a deal been struck. Gosling’s work in La La Land nabbed him a Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations, and Chazelle has nominations for both a Golden Globe and the Oscar.

First Man is set to shoot in early 2017. Gosling’s next picture, Blade Runner 2049, will be out October 6, 2017.
