G33K Out: 2017 LA Times Festival of Books

Episode 24: 2017 LA Times Festival of Books

Back in late April, I attended the 2017 LA Times Festival of Books. The largest book festival in the US, this free annual event celebrates the written word. With panels on a variety of topics, readings and interviews with authors, and even music performances, there’s always something for everyone. This was my third year attending. While I was there, I interviewed many of the people in the various vendor booths throughout the festival.

Basic show notes:

• Running time is 43 minutes and 40 seconds.
• The main interviews were recorded on April 24, 2017.
• The marching band you hear at the beginning is the USC marching band, from this video I took during the festival.
• I managed to interview the following:
  • Neil Teixeira, volunteer with the Kurt Vonnegut Museum & Library;
  • Haneen Khalaf, the Community Engagement Coordinator for the XPRIZE Adult Education project;
  • Michael Mullin, author with Gemiknight Press;
  • Anomaly Productions (you can see a video of how the augmented reality comic works over on my Instagram);
  • Emily Bergman with the Jane Austen Society;
  • John Palisano, who talked to me about the Horror Writers Association; and
  • Sanjay Nambiar, the writer (and founder) of the Super Amazing Princess Heroes.
