E3 Recap: Nintendo
The last major press conference at E3 2019 has wrapped up. There is still more E3 news to come, but for now, here is a recap of Nintendo’s E3 Direct.
Smash Ultimate
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate opened the Direct with the announcement of Dragon Quest XI‘s Unnamed Hero will be joining the massive roster this summer. Hero is the second Smash Ultimate DLC character after Joker from Persona 5 joined the roster earlier this year. It is not too surprising to see Dragon Quest getting into Smash, with Dragon Quest XI hitting the Nintendo Switch September 27.
Nintendo didn’t stop with that Smash announcement. Banjo-Kazooie will also be joining the roster this Fall. Fans have been predicting (and praying) the goofy character would be joining the roster, and their prayers have been answered.
Introducing Bowser
We had to give a shoutout to the introduction of the new President of Nintendo of America, Bowser. No, not that one; Doug Bowser. No, they are not related. This is Doug Bowser’s first Nintendo Direct as President of Nintendo of America.
Luigi’s Mansion 3
Nintendo gave an in-depth look at gameplay in Luigi’s Mansion 3. The gameplay displayed some old functions like stunning with a flashlight and sucking up ghosts with a Poltergeist. New functions such as burst attacks and suction shots were also displayed.
Luigi’s Mansion 3 will also feature a new character named Gooigi. Professor E. Gadd’s new creation can help you in solo mode and co-op mode. If you want to play with a friend, they will take control of Gooigi with a joycon. You can also summon Gooigi in solo mode to help you in tough situations, but be careful around water.
Scarescraper mode will be making a return after its appearance in Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. Up to four Luigi’s can play in this multiplayer mode with randomly generated floors and tasks. No release date for the game has been announced, but Nintendo said it should be out in 2019. We can all hope for an October release.
Legend of Zelda
Another look at gameplay for a highly anticipated game, this time it was for The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Remake. The world, the gameplay, everything looks as exciting as ever. A new dungeon creator mode is making its way into the remake as well. You will be able to create the dungeon, explore it and bring back rewards. You will be able to play the remake of Links Awakening September 20, but that was not the only Legend of Zelda news. Nintendo ended the press conference with the announcement that a sequel to Breath of the Wild is not in development. There was no more information about the game, but we have the trailer here:
Witcher 3
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and all of its content will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. There was no release date, but CD Projekt Red’s massive game will be brought to the Switch in 2019.
Resident Evil
Nintendo announced Resident Evil 5 and 6 are coming to the Nintendo Switch this Fall. These ports are joining Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil Revelations, and Resident Evil Revelations 2 on the Switch.
Trials of Mana
The HD remake of Seiken Densest 3, Trials of Mana, is finally coming west in a joint project with Nintendo and Square Enix. The game originally released in 1995 on the Super Famicom and is getting a modern RPG makeover. The remake of the third installment of the Secret of Mana series will release on Nintendo Switch in 2020.
No More Heroes 3
Nintendo announced No More Heroes 3 with a cinematic trailer. The game is coming out in 2020 and it is the first mainline No More Heroes game since 2010’s No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle.
Daemon x Machina
A story trailer for Daemon x Machina revealed some of the story beats alongside lots of mechs. The release date for this action mech game is September 13. Daemon x Machina was announced during Nintendo’s E3 Direct in 2018.
Contra
Nintendo announced a new Contra game, developed by Konami, is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Contra: Rogue Corps will be dropping on the Nintendo Switch September 24. A launch trailer was revealed for the Contra Anniversary Collection, which is available today.
Panzer Dragoon
The first Panzer Dragoon remake had a cinematic trailer during the E3 Direct. The trailer displayed new visuals and confirmed the game will be on Nintendo Switch by the end of 2019. The remake will have new visuals and updated controls so modern audiences can have an easier time getting into the game.
