Disney Adds 2nd Season of STAR WARS: REBELS
Even before the curtain goes up on the first season of Star Wars: Rebels, which is set to officially start October 16, Disney has announced plans for a second season.
“The global expectations for this series could not have been any higher. And I am proud to say that the team at Lucasfilm has delivered something that has surpassed even that incredibly high bar — artistically and thematically,” says Disney Channels Worldwide president Gary Marsh.
The Disney XD show, set in the time just prior to the original 1977 Star Wars, is the first animated project to come out of the Disney/Lucasfilm package, and to say expectations have been high would be an understatement. Given the stable of talent involved — Dave Filoni, Greg Weisman, Simon Kinberg, designs by Ralph McQuarrie — it’s no surprise the excitement level is rising as more clips and photos hit the Internet. With sneak peeks running on Disney XD over the past few days, plus a preview at San Diego Comic-Con, the pumped has been well and truly primed.
Newsarama has confirmed, however, that Greg Weisman will not be with the show after the first season. No details have been given.
On Friday, October 3rd, Disney XD will air Star Wars Rebels: Spark Of Rebellion, a two-hour movie that combines the first two 60-minute episodes before the official run begins.
NOTE: Not only is Anthony Daniels listed on the show’s IMDb page as C-3PO, but Billy Dee Williams is also listed as providing the voice for Lando Calrissian.
