ABC Casts Leads For DECEPTION And THE CROSSING

ABC has begun casting for the two new sci-fi pilots they ordered in January: Deception and The Crossing.

Jack Cutmore-Scott (Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life) has been cast as the lead for the magical police procedural, Deception. He will be joined by series regulars Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break) and Lenora Crichlow (Being Human).

Deception follows superstar magician Cameron Black (Cutmore-Scott) whose career is ruined by a scandal. He becomes the world’s first consulting illusionist when he joins the FBI, the one place he can practice his art of deception, illusion, and influence. Using his skills, he helps the government solve crimes that defy explanation and trapping criminals and spies with deception. Nolasoc will play Mike Alvarez, a classic FBI agent and secret fan of magic. Crichlow will play Dina Clark, Black’s producer and makeup genius.

The pilot is from writer Chris Fedack (Legends of Tomorrow). Greg Berlatni, Martin Gero, Sarah Schechter, and David Nutter will executive produce. Renowned magician and puzzle creator David Kwong will co-produce.

Cooper Barrett was Cutmore-Scott’s first starring role. The British actor also appeared in 2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Nolasco has currently returned as Fernando Sucre in Fox’s Prison Break event series.

Crichlow appeared in the first four seasons of the hit British series Being Human. She starred opposite Helena Bohman-Carter in the BBC America movie Burton and Taylor and the leads in the ITV tv movie, Doors Open, and the UK film, Fast Girls.

Sandrine Holt has been cast as the female lead in the drama pilot The Crossing, written by Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie (Criminal Minds). They are close to closing a deal for the male co-lead for the House of Cards alum.

The Crossing revolves around refugees from a war-torn country, seeking asylum in an American town. However, the American refugees are fleeing a war that is 250 years in the future. The story will center around a local sheriff with a past, a federal agent, and a mother in search of her missing refugee daughter who discover a conspiracy at the center of the turmoil. Holt will play Emma Peralta, a federal customs agent who is all business and keen mind that helps her keep control in chaos. She is skeptical of the refugees’ story and the concept of time travel, yet is sympathetic enough to find truth due to her own rough past as an immigrant.
