What the Fest!? Returns For Year Two

Genre fans, rejoice!

For its second year What the Fest!? is taking over the IFC Center in NYC for 5 days (March 20-24) in a celebration of not-for-mainstream film and entertainment.

From the festival:

“Much of  the  most innovative and exciting cinema on screens today comes out of the universe of genre films – movies that are entertaining, surprising and sometimes shocking. Fantastic films that upend conventional limitations to help us escape reality and harbor deeper ambitions to thrill smart audiences. Launched by IFC Center in 2018, What The Fest!? is for the creative and curious looking for a community in which to share experiences. From cerebral shockers to singular cinematic experiences to unforgettable special events, What The Fest!? is more than just movies, it is an experience.”

Of particular interest this year is a panel discussion on March 23rd, “Female Trouble: Fearless Women Leading the Way in Horror, Fantasy, and Suspense”. The panel will talk about the increasing presence of women at the helm of genre features and how far we still need to go.  Participants will include two of this year’s festival choice directors among others.

  • Emma Tammi (Director of The Wind)
  • Roxanne Benjamin (Director of Body at Brighton Rock)
  • Meredith Alloway (Film Journalist, Independent Filmmaker)

As the films release will will be giving you feedback and thoughts from the audiences and filmmakers – and our own reviews- so check back often after the 21st!

When asked to list 5 faves, I said 12 Monkeys, Penny Dreadful, Fringe, Firefly and Ripper Street, so if you're a nattily-dressed, time-traveling werewolf with a quirky spaceship, I'll almost definitely come on your journey. I'll bring the snacks and wine!
