Two Big Roles Cast for POWERS
Last month, we shared news that Susan Heyward had been cast as Deena Pilgrim in the live-action Powers television series that is scheduled to air this December on Sony’s PlayStation Network. Today, we learned from Deadline.com that two more major roles have been cast.
Sharlto Copley has been cast to play Christian Walker. Walker and Deena are police detectives that investigate crimes involving people with super-powers (these people are referred to as ‘Powers’ thus the title of the comic). Copley is probably best known for roles in District 9, Maleficent and The A-Team.
The role of Retro Girl has been awarded to actress Michelle Forbes. Forbes has been seen in three episodes of Orphan Black, ten episodes of Chicago Fire and will also appear in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1. Her breakthrough scifi role came as Ro Laren on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Retro Girl is one of the most popular heroes of the Powers universe. She is extremely powerful and is considered a paragon of virtue and heroism.
The original comic was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming for Image/Icon. The property had spent years in development at FX but despite casting and shooting never saw any episodes aired. The show is set to begin airing in December on the PlayStation Network.
