"Torchwood" Gets New Sub-Title

The BBC has released details about the latest incarnation of “Torchwood”, the one show-runner Russell T. Davies has brought across the pond to the U.S.

“Torchwood: Miracle Day” reunites John Barrowman and Eve Myles as Captain Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper. Following the events of “Children of Earth”, Gwen’s living in seclusion after Captain Jack fled the planet. Now, however, a mystery is brewing: people on Earth have stopped dying. Death is suddenly not happening. A crack CIA team investigates, and gets drawn into the mystery of a secret facility that used to deal with such things.

Joining the cast for the 10-episode run: Mekhi Phifer (“ER”), Alexa Havins (“All My Children”), Arlene Tur, and Bill Pullman (Independence Day). Pullman plays a child killer who gets a second chance when his execution fails. (Remember, people have stopped dying.) Phifer leads the CIA team leader Rex Matheson, who finds himself trekking all over the world in search of answers.

Russell T. Davies and Julie Gardner return to run the show, which has already proven that anyone can die. (Well, except Jack…) So will all of the cast make it through the whole 10 episodes?

“Torchwood: Miracle Day” begins shooting in LA on Monday, and debuts on Starz in July.
