“Together We Are More” POWER RANGERS Movie News

BANNER_News2013

We got some major announcements recently about the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers movie, including a poster, a tagline, and a cast member from Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers the series being cast in the 2017 film. Let’s get started, shall we? It’s Morphin’ Time!

Our first bit of news is the teaser poster for the movie with the tagline “Together we are more” written within the iconic Power Rangers lightning bolt.

The stars of the night sky form the lightning bolt with the tagline in it. If you look under the night sky you will see our rangers, four of which are on top of a car, and one of which is on the ground behind it. The four rangers standing on top of the car are Billy, Trini, Zack, and Kimberly with Jason left standing on the ground, probably because he is the leader of the team and he has to earn their respect before the team can fully work together.

The car in the poster looks like an updated version of the RadBug; however, nothing has been confirmed and this is only my speculation. The RadBug (Remote Activated Drivingzord for Basic Ultra Geomorphology) was used in the original show when the Rangers could not teleport. Billy, the blue ranger, built the RadBug in the show to get the teenagers from place to place, especially to and from the command center, when the command center systems were malfunctioning thanks to the evil Green Ranger.

I find the simplicity of the poster refreshing, not too flashy or showy and it brings a curiosity about the movie that would make most casual movie goers interested in seeing what this is all about. The tagline “Together we are more” brings up feelings of teamwork, acceptance, overcoming obstacles, family, and friendship that the Power Rangers franchise as a whole has always wanted to instill in their viewers from the 90’s to now. If the tagline for the poster is any indication of the themes of the movie, then Ranger fans will not be disappointed.

The big casting news to just come out is that we finally have our Zordon of Eltar being played by the incomparable Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Malcom in the Middle, Godzilla). Cranston is an interesting choice for die hard Power Rangers fans like myself because not only did he voice one monster on Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, he voiced two monsters the Rangers had to face, and on top of that the Blue Ranger, Billy, was named after Cranston because in the series his name is Billy Cranston in tribute to the actor. Cranston is currently the only original series cast member to be confirmed in this movie with a role.

Zordon is an alien from the planet Eltar who, ten thousand years ago, clashed with the evil Rita Repulsa on Earth. During their final battle, Zordon seals Rita and her minions away in a dumpster on the Moon. After the battle ends, Zordon and his robot assistant Alpha 5 create a Command Center, to live and operate out of, in the desert outside the city of Angel Grove. He then creates the Power Morphers, the Power Coins, and the Dinozords. When Rita Repulsa is released from the dumpster, Zordon recruits five teenagers from Angel Grove to become the Power Rangers and gives them the Morphers, the Power Coins, and the Dinozords to battle Rita. Zordon is the mentor to the Rangers and is with them for many seasons of the show until his eventual death in Power Rangers in Space.

Zordon also just appears as a big floating bald head in a tube because of a curse Rita Repulsa put on him before her banishment. This should prove easily for Bryan Cranston having been bald for most of Breaking Bad. I am excited to see what he brings to the role of the mentor to these five new Rangers as they face off against a new Rita Repulsa played by Elizabeth Banks.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers opens in theaters March 24th, 2017. I’ll be keeping you posted on all the latest Ranger news. Until next time, may the power protect you.
