The web is buzzing with the new Batman trailer for The Dark Knight Rises (due out July 20th). The film was recently confirmed to be a part of the previews to run before The Avengers (opening Friday, if you’ve been living under a rock) and has since, largely in part due to the viral marketing campaign launched by the studio (you can start the search at the official website), managed to find its way online.

The new trailer shows more Joseph Gordon-Levitt (there are plenty of rumors abound about the true nature of his character, including a theory based on an unconfirmed Heroclix bio), more Anne Hathaway, and more of that lovely darkness leading up to the end of this run of the franchise.
Of course, this is not the first look at some of the new stuff. Attendees at CinemaCon in Las Vegas were treated to a glimpse at the footage. Among the reactions from those in attendance, one of the most noted differences was the change in Bane’s voice. ComingSoon.net reports that “you could clearly understand everything Bane was saying.” Speaking as someone with a hard time hearing those deep tones, I’m particularly excited for this news.

The stills and preview don’t show a highly anticipated cameo: Liam Neeson has confirmed his appearance in the new film. Of course, if you watched last month’s Comic Con Carne, you already knew that but now things are getting a little more awesome. Heroclix has released the first image of their Ra’s al Ghul figure.
There’s been a lot of talk about the release of the movie itself (which has earned itself a PG-13 rating, with some controversy) and whether it would be in 3D. Whereas he is a big believer in the IMAX format, Christopher Nolan discussed with the Directors Guild of America about his choice to not shoot the film with the intent of a 3D release. Nolan uses the IMAX cameras rather than converting in post and has managed to break a record with the newest of the Batman movies- The Dark Knight Rises is set to have over an hour of IMAX footage (more than any other film to date). In addition to the film’s release on July 20th, Warner Bros. Entertainment announced on its official Twitter the novelization of the film will be out the same day. The novelization is penned by Greg Cox and will release through Titan Books, according to a press release from the studio.
And it’s still 80 days until the movie hits theaters, but there’s already work being done on the home release special features. IGN has more info on the Batmobile parade that took place at Legendary Studios in Burbank, California.
