STAR WARS Adds to Director Slate; Abrams Leaks Photo
Lucasfilm has announced today, that Chronicle and Fantastic Four director Josh Trank will help an upcoming stand-alone installment of the Star Wars franchise.
Trank, who has drawn some fan ire for casting Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm in the upcoming FF reboot, joins Godzilla director Gareth Edwards for projects outside the main trilogy featuring the classic cast. The plan, as far as we know so far, is for these films to be released in the off-years when a trilogy chapter isn’t in theaters.

Early reports had Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg each writing screenplays for this set, although no details have been announced about the stories. Rumor has it that the stand-alone projects could include a Han Solo prequel, a Boba Fett story, and possibly a Yoda solo film. But this is all speculation at this point.
Meanwhile, after TMZ released “leaked” (read that “allowed to be leaked”) photos of the Abu Dhabi location, they also gave us photos from within a large warehouse facility where various spaceships are being constructed, including what looks to be the Millennium Falcon (as it’s not likely they’ll have a different YT-1300 light stock freighter, right?). Director J.J. Abrams took to Twitter to complain with this image:

So, Abrams has just denied the inclusion of the Millennium Falcon from within the set of the Millennium Falcon. Which shows that he’s either loosened up a bit on the “Mystery Box” methods that got him in hot water during the production of Star Trek Into Darkness, or he’s been told to loosen up and make sure there are some pieces set loose upon the world as production continues to move forward.
Or he’s having some fun with the absurdity of trying to keep everything under-wraps in this day and age.
