Roundup 9.5.11 – GAME OF THRONES

Been a while since we posted any GoT news, and a lot has gone on this summer, so let’s dive in:

The Daily Beast has this interview with show producers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, in which they talk about casting, season two story bits, and other odd and ends about the success of the show.

New Roles

From TV Guide: Roy Dotrice and Hannah Murray will join season two. Dotrice will portray Pyromancer Hallyne, while Murray will play Gilly. This news comes on the heels of the announcement that Liam Cunningham has signed on to play Davos Seaworth. Boom Tron reports that British actor Ben Crompton will portray Night’s Watch member Dolorous Edd. Also, they’ve confirmed that Welsh actor Robert Pugh will play Craster. And speaking of Roy Dotrice, his Beauty and the Beast co-star, Ron Perlman, tells Access Hollywood he’d love to be on the show.

“I go way back with George R. R. I can’t believe how through the roof he is. He won’t return any of my calls any more,” Perlman said in jest. “It’s really disgusting what Hollywood can do to a guy.”

Access Hollywood also has the news that Tyrion’s squire, Podrick Payne, will be played by Daniel Portman.

Charlie Chaplin’s granddaughter, Oona Chaplin, has been cast as Jeyne, but there’s a question about which Jeyne, since there are two – Sansa’s best friend and the friend of Eddard’s children. We’ll have to see which. [TV Fanatic]   [Just Jared]

And Jason Momoa, who played the now-dead Drogo, says he’s written some scenes and is trying to get back onto the show, perhaps as Drogo’s (ahem) unknown twin brother… [CNN]

Indie Wire posted this news that Nonso Anozie has been cast as wealthy merchant Xaro Xhoan Daxos.

Irish Central is reporting that model Lisa Nolan has been cast as the king’s mistress “and will star alongside Sean Bean and Lena Headey”. But that can’t be right, since Bean’s character lost his head (literally) at the end of the first season. Either it’s a typo, or maybe it means flashbacks? Or she’s some other king’s mistress…

The site Winter is Coming reports that the role of Rorge has been re-cast, now being played by Andy Beckwith.

IGN has this round-up of the season two Who’s Who.

Role Reversal

At one point, once upon a time, George R. R. Martin was a fan, as demonstrated by this recently uncovered letter he wrote to Stan Lee, creator of a few comic book heroes … Make a note of the issue numbers he references…

Cameras Roll

Shooting has begun in Belfast once again. The Belfast Telegraph has this story on the production starting up once again at Paint Hall and other locations in Northern Ireland.

And MTV had cameras rolling at Bubonicon, where they got to chat with Martin, in which he reveals that he’s written “Blackwater”, which will be episode 9.

Roll Tape

AOL TV’s Maureen Ryan recently got time with George R. R. Martin, and chatted up the author about how the show is going. And Martin talks about his likes (and quibbles) about the adaptation.

Book Roll

io9 has this story about the new Song of Ice and Fire series. From Thomas Dunne Books, George R. R. Costanza brings us A Game of Groans, bringing you the story of the Barks. No release date yet. Martin has announced on his blog that Ted Nasmith will be illustrating brand new editions of the book series. Martin has also put out a call for help in finding two stolen scripts that were supposed to be auctioned for charity at WorldCon. Martin alleges that it was probably a US Post Office employee who lifted the scripts, and has called on his “thousand eyes and one” to find them.

Bank Roll

In related Martin news, his short story “The Skin Trade” just got picked up by Mike the Pike Productions for a live-action adaptation. [Dread Central]   [Shock Till You Drop]

Rolling Out

And now you’re caught up, so with that, we’ll part with this parting shot from HijiNKS ENSUE:

Jason P. Hunt

Jason P. Hunt (founder/EIC) is the author of the sci-fi novella "The Hero At the End Of His Rope". His short film "Species Felis Dominarus" was a finalist in the Sci Fi Channel's 2007 Exposure competition.
