OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL – Roundup 1.6.13
The big media push has begun in earnest, with Disney releasing these two teaser spots for the new year:

And now, the new poster featuring very familiar look. There seems to be some confusion over whether this is Mila Kunia (Theodora) or Rachel Weisz (Evanora) in full on West make-up. Wikipedia lists Theodora as the Wicked Witch of the West, and early plot details have Theodora on an arc to go from good to bad because her advances are spurned by Oz. However, the Wikipedia listing references this movie, not existing material, as the source for that name.
So while Kunis could be playing West, it’s also possible Weisz ends up in the green, as that’s the color she’s wearing in the Japanese poster (see below). And since Kunis is wearing red, and Michelle Williams is in the lighter colors we know Glinda wears in the 1938 film, it stands to reason that Kunis ends up as the witch of the East, corrupted by her sister after Oz lands and shakes things up.
Looks like she’s the beauty school dropout for this one. Too bad she didn’t have the new nail polish coming out.
OPI will release a limited edition polish set inspired by the movie. But don’t expect to see anything related to Dorothy or the ruby slippers, since they haven’t happened yet (and the slippers were silver in the book anyway…). There are three styles — pearl, glitter, and matte — with names like “What Wizardry is This?” and “Glints of Glinda”. No brick yellow or emerald green, either.
