2013: Who You Gonna Call? Us!

Happy 2013, everyone!

So many things going on right now, and it’s all very exciting. As the new year rolls out, SciFi4Me will be rolling out new shows and new seasons of past shows.

As I’ve said before, back when SciFi4Me first launched, the ultimate goal was to be something like an online alternative to the new Syfy branding and programming strategy — more science fiction and less wrestling. And with that, I had hoped to add a lot of different things to make the SciFi4Me brand more of a community where fans could get everything they wanted in a single portal, including TV and movies.

This past year, YouTube has stepped up their efforts to get away from the typical “ball to the crotch” videos that made them big; instead going for more of a channel-oriented strategy involving their Partner-level channels (which we are) and making YouTube more like a cable service — more original news, information, and scripted programs. The best example of this outside of the broadcast and cable companies: Geek and Sundry.

Multiple shows, multiple hosts, multiple subjects. They’re applying Field of Dreams logic here — “If you build it, they will come.”

Taking a look at what they’re doing, and given the success of the SciFi4Me spinoff Reviews for Humans, we’re going to be offering more video this year. Our comic book news program, Comic Con Carne, is coming back in a big way: HD resolution, a new title sequence, new personnel, and a split personality! We’ll have three, possibly four, editions of the show — Prime is the Coca Cola Classic of the bunch, with new spinoffs focused on comic book movies (hosted by Rina Mehta) along with another segment highlighting indie press and web comics. Plus, Ink Tips will fly solo this year.

New shows coming to the channel include:

  • The Grid — news and reviews from the gamer community.
  • The James Show — the youngest member of the Scooby Gang, who turns eleven this month, shares his thoughts on… well, whatever suits him, really.
  • H2O –Mr. Harvey and I will Opine (H + H + O, you see) about various and sundry topics.

Plus, we’re going to have a “week in review” program, a Science/Tech feature, and book reviews! And wait till you see what we have planned for Free Comic Book Day.. plus the usual convention coverage (maybe more, even!) from around various places.

It’s a lot to take in, and it’s a lot to develop. So you’d be smart to jump on now and see it from the very beginning. We cordially invite you to subscribe to our YouTube page and see all that we have to offer. Heading into our fourth anniversary, we’re excited about the next level up.
