Does the DmC Demo Bedevil Kali? Nah…

new-danteI finally got a chance to sit down and play the demo for DmC, that everyone has been ranting and raving about. Now, as I said in my most anticipated games list, I am a very big Devil May Cry fan, so when I first heard about the reboot I was less than thrilled, but the more I heard about it the more interested I became.

The intro to the demo shoves quite a bit of info at you, all of which I’m hoping gets explained when the game comes out. I’m excited to see the friendly interaction between Dante and Vergil, since we got a taste of it towards the end of DMC 3.

This reboot goes in a completely different visual direction; the original mixed “rock” and kind of a medieval classic style. DmC is very modern, and while I’m not totally sold on their appearance, I do like the varying degrees of intelligence the demon  A.I. showed… It was a nice chance of pace between the repetitive button pushing to actually have to dodge or parry an attack.

Which brings me to the weapons. Devil May Cry always had a variety of weapons to choose from and play around with. DmC, from what I can tell from the demo, has about 4:

1. Rebellion, Dante’s fathers sword and his old stand-by.
2. Ebony and Ivory, his two altered pistols, although they seemed very watered down in the demo. They really didn’t do much of anything so I almost never used them.
3. The angel scythe, you can use your angel powers and command a scythe and jump higher, glide a bit, and do slightly different combos. Yeehaw.
4. The demon hammer? I’m not entirely sure if its supposed to be a hammer or a waraxe, either way itls basically the same as the scythe, except a little slower, and you can use the demon powers to snatch enemies out of the sky (think devil bringer in DMC 4).

The only chuckle I got out of the demo was the exchange between Dante and the boss… It was more of a “wtf just happened” kind of chuckle. The boss fight itself wasn’t too challenging for a DmC boss, but its only a demo boss. We will see once the full game comes out.

If you are confused as to how I feel about this game, join the club! I have no strong feelings either way… I’ll just have to wait til I get to play the full game…. Please don’t disappoint me ninja theory, I don’t want to have to agree with the rabid fanboys on this one!
