Goyer, who has a hit-and-miss (mostly miss) track record with fans, frequently has drawn criticism for his ill-considered remarks in interviews and convention panels. He’ll serve as executive producer along with Damian Kindler and Colm McCarthy. Kindler will also serve as showrunner, if the series gets picked up.

Krypton is one of the most iconic stories in the comic book universe,” said Bill McGoldrick, Executive Vice President, Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “In the talented hands of David S. Goyer and the DC Entertainment/Warner Horizon Television team, this exciting Syfy project will take viewers back to Superman’s home to show how the timeless legend began.”

Goyer and Ian Goldberg wrote the teleplay, which will be directed by McCarthy.

Krypton joins a recent spate of programs ordered by Syfy as part of rejuvenating the brand to reflect a return to science fiction programming  — shows that include 12 MonkeysThe MagiciansKilljoysDark Matter, and Wynonna Earp. Additional high-profile projects will include Prototype, a new adaptation of Brave New World, and Hyperion.
