STAR WARS Holonet Weekly: The Franchise Will Own 2019

2019 is going to be a big year for Star Wars. So many different projects and such a long time to wait. So, grab your drool towels and let’s dive in!

The obvious major project this year is Episode IX, the end of the Skywalker saga. Nobody’s excited right? Reddit user Aliy2018 on StarWarsLeaks posted a screenshot of an Instagram photo that was supposedly taken by a crew member of a gift from producers J.J. Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy, Callum Greene, and Michelle Rejwan signaling the end of filming… which means the next logical step would be a trailer, right? According to Making Star Wars, Disney has a full trailer that is finished, ready to be shown. However, editor-in-chief Jason Ward reports they’re not sure if it’s the final cut or not and that only a few people have seen it, but, as usual, not allowed to share. Now it would be logical for the trailer to be released at Star Wars Celebration in April, but as it was pointed out in the comments of Aliy2018’s post, the Super Bowl is not too far away. So, would they release a full trailer or just a nice little teaser AND title to quench our thirst till April?

The next project to be released on fans this year will be the opening of Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge in the spring at Disneyland and in the fall at Disney World. We’ve gotten new trailers showcasing the park’s addition but posts from Twitter account SWGalaxyEdge (@sw_edge) show pictures from the Disney Cast member magazine, DisneylandLine Resort, of team members working on a couple ride sets. Now, if behind the scenes pictures don’t get you excited, then we don’t know what will….

Except this: the new prices of the theme parks. Annual passes and parking are rising 25 percent, which is on top of the 18 percent from last year. Even the price of a one-day value pass, tickets for a low-demand day, are over $100. Cheapest one-day pass in Orlando? $109. The parks are fun and fans will continue to pay, especially with the new additions. Do you Crumbers think it’s worth it?

Not only will next fall have the debut of the Orlando Galaxy’s Edge, but also the new streaming service Disney+. News broke this week that the service would begin in September, which also means we can guestimate that The Mandalorian will start this fall, along with the second season of Resistance. Not that these are not great announcements but even better is the unexpected and very much wanted seventh season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. 12 new episodes will explore the unfinished business between Anakin, Obi-Wan, and the exiled Jedi-in-training Ahoska Tano. Now, we may not be able to see you Crumbers right now, but we KNOW you are doing a little happy dance.

Coming to Amazon Prime on February 8 is the 60-minute documentary film Heroes of the Empire about the 501st Garrison in the United Kingdom. The film follows them as they a bring joy to the public attending various events around the UK, much of them being fundraising activities. Viewers get a chance to meet the people behind the masks and learn about the inspirations that got them to join the 501st. Check out the trailer below.

New gaming projects coming from the Disney table also include Vader Immortal, a virtual reality experience from ILMxLAB for the $399 Oculus Quest. The game was written and executive produced by The Dark Knight screen writer, David S. Goyer. This allows players to journey to the Vader’s castle on Mustafar and face him on his home turf. Two more installments are currently planned for the future.

Another game that will be released is Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, another interactive game from a secret project between EA and its Respawn Entertainment division. The game will focus on a Padawan trainee who survived the Jedi massacre from Revenge of the Sith. No date for release yet, just that it will be in time for the next holiday season.

And finally, three new comics will be released this month. Here are the titles and their synopsis:

Star Wars No. 59 The Escape: Part 3

Luke, Leia, and Han remain stranded on the isolated moon of Hubin and out of the fight against the Empire. Who says they even WANT to leave? But their hideaway may not be so secret…especially for old foes hot on the rebels’ trail.

Star Wars Age of Republic: Jango Fett No. 1

The most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy! Jango Fett’s reputation precedes him as he joins a crew for what seems like a simple job. Wait, is that a KID with him?! Will his fellow bounty hunters be foolish to betray Jango and his son, Boba Fett?

Star Wars Adventures: Destroyer Down No. 3

Swallowed by the shifting sands of Jakku, the Imperial Star Destroyer Spectral has been lost for two decades, giving rise to rumors of hauntings and buried treasure. But an epic sandstorm has revealed the ruins of the star ship, and renowned scavenger Rey now leads the race to claim whatever lies within!

Whoa, that’s a lot for the months coming, and there definitely will be more to come! So, keep watching for the next Holonet to find out!
