SciFi4Chicks on the Women of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD

Melinda May. Jemma Simmons. Skye/Daisy Johnson. From the first episode of S.H.I.E.L.D., these women have set the stage for interesting and complex characters in the male-dominated Marvel universes. As our first caller Allison asked, is that because Marvel is trying to bring more women of substance, or is it a convention of television writing? It’s time to see what the ladies of SciFi4Chicks think!

Alex, Kammie, and Maia continue our new series, Women of Genrewith a look at the women of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. What are their strengths and weaknesses? Their successes and failures? Are they growing over the seasons, or are they taking turns inconsistent with what their characters should and could be? Take a listen to part one of the Women of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, then share your thoughts with the Chicks.

The panel: Alex Callahan, Kammie Settle, Maia Ades.

Don’t forget to subscribe to our podcast so you won’t miss a single episode of Women of Genre, including part two of this discussion. We will be looking at female characters across the science fiction/fantasy spectrum from some of our favorite television shows, movies, books, and more. If you have suggestions, we’d love to hear. Maybe you could even join the discussion!

Upcoming episodes include the women of Doctor Who  and Grimm. And next we have part two of the Women of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., just in time for the new season and the return of the SciFi4Me Marvel podcast, Level Eleventy-Seven. Make sure to check out Maia and Kammie as they join the guys to discuss the season three premiere. Of course, that’s after you listen to the Chicks look back at seasons one and two!
