GAME OF THRONES Extends Cast For Sixth Season
As many of you may know, Game of Thrones received 24 Emmy nominations and went home with 12 – a new record. Those Emmys included Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss, Outstanding Directing for David Nutter, and Outstanding Supporting Actor for Peter Dinklage.
As the sixth season is being filmed, details of several new cast members are being released. The Greyjoy and Tarly families are being expanded this season.
Pilou Asbæk has been cast to play Theon’s uncle, Euron. In the Song of Ice and Fire series, the unpredictable Euron Greyjoy is the captain of a ship named the Silence. Asbæk is known for his roles in Lucy, The Hijacking, and R.
The infamous Randyll Tarly will be played by James Faulkner, who is known for his role as Lord Sinderby on Downton Abbey and has appeared in Bridget Jone’s Diary and X-Men: First Class. Randyll is Samwell’s father in the series.
Freddie Stroma will play Dickon Tarly, the favorite of the Tarly sons. Stroma is the star of Lifetime’s UnREAL, and played Cormac McLaggen in the Harry Potter franchise. Actress Samantha Spiro (From Hell) will play Sam’s mother Melessa Tarly, and Rebecca Benson (Macbeth) will play his sister Talla Tarly.
Essie Davis has been cast a one of the stars in a played called The Bloody Hand, and she will be a version of Cersei Lannister. She is best known for her roles in The Matrix sequels.
As we’ve reported earlier, Max von Sydow will be the new mentor of Bran Stark as the Three Eyed Raven. Richard E. Grant and Ian McShane have also been cast, but their roles have not been announced.
Deadline reports that Game of Thrones will likely end after season eight, according to writers David Benioff and Dan Weiss. HBO is open to a prequel series, and Michael Lombardo (President of HBO programming) says, “We would be open to anything [Benioff and Weiss] want to do, there is enormous amount of storytelling in that world,” and, “the focus is on figuring out the next few years of the show.” He has also been adamant that John Snow is in fact dead, despite unbelieving fans.
Game of Thrones will return in the spring of 2016.
