RUMOR: More STAR WARS sequels planned?
IESB.com is reporting that their inside secret source at Skywalker Ranch tells of a plan for George Lucas to develop sequels set after Return of the Jedi 3D.
According to the source, Lucas is so rejuvenated creatively over the success of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the new still-in-development live-action series that features Boba Fett that he’s pondering the development of another trilogy to follow the original.
The timeline would be consistent with what Lucas did prior to the release of the prequel trilogy. As we know, the Special Edition of the original trilogy came out just a short time before the release of The Phantom Menace. This time around, the release of the entire set on Blu-Ray as well as the 3D conversion seems to be the “Special Edition” moment that could kick off the new trilogy’s timing.
IF there’s another trilogy. Lucasfilm, of course, isn’t saying one way or the other. But given that Star Wars is pretty much the only well Lucas seems to draw water from (outside of Indiana Jones), it’s a good bet he’s going to be in that universe for as long as he can manage.
IESB has a pretty good track record for scoops, as they point out in the article. But don’t expect anything to come of this for a long while yet. In the meantime, have the salt ready.
WTF? That is honestly the only responce I can conjure after hearing this!
First off all, as a fan, I’m completely jazzed about more STAR WARS stories. I loved some of the novels that continued the universe with adventures of the Solo kids + Skywalker kids and so on.
As a filmmaker, my reaction is ‘why?!’ As jealous as I am thinking about how Lucas has done all of 3 stories in his entire career and become a billionnaire, not to mention has his own filmmaking infastructure (THX, Lucasfilm, SFX, etc…) the fact that he would continiously dip into this well on top of the tie-ins, merchandising, DVD rights, royalties, etc… decades after the actual achievement itself… is pathetic!
I want to see more live-action STAR WARS films, but on the other hand… I’d rather not have him ruin the legacy… more so than the prequel trilogy that is. :s
