May the Power Protect These Five New Teenagers With Attitude!
Well it looks like Zordon, or the other powers that may be, have selected their five teenagers with attitude. We have confirmation that these five will be the five original Power Rangers, despite rumors to say the contrary.
Some Ranger fans have speculated that these five will be new rangers that we haven’t seen. Another popular theory is that these rangers will be the second and third season rangers from Mighty Morphin: Aisha, Adam, Rocky, Kat, Billy, and Tommy. The rumors and speculation were brought up because of the original races of the actors. In the original series Jason, Billy, and Kimberly were all white, Trini was Asian, and Zack was African American. Jason was the Red Ranger, Billy was Blue, Kimberly was Pink, Trini was Yellow, and Zack was Black. Now in this new movie that will be coming out Jason is White, Kimberly is Indian, Billy is African American, Zack is Asian, and Trini is Hispanic. I personally do not care if the races are all switched up; I’m just happy for more Power Rangers. Am I right?
So let’s go over our new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers shall we?
First off we have the leader of our Ranger team: Jason, the Red Ranger, played by Dacre Montgomery. Dacre has been in a TV movie and a short film, so he’s a relative newcomer. He is currently 20 years old.
Billy, the Blue Ranger, will be played by RJ Cyler. Cyler, age 20, was most recently seen in Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl and is working on a TV series called Vice Principal, a movie called War Machine, and a TV movie called I’m Dying Up Here.
Zack, the Black Ranger, will be played by Ludi Lin. Lin was most recently seen in a movie called Monster Hunt and the TV Series Marco Polo. Lin has mostly been in short films.
Kimberly, the Pink Ranger, will be played by Naomi Scott. Scott, 22, was most recently seen in the movie The Martian, and she is currently working on a TV series called Inspector Lewis. She was also in the Disney Channel movie Lemonade Mouth, the Fox show Terra Nova (see our recaps here), and a TV series called Life Bites.
Trini, the Yellow Ranger, will be played by Becky G, an 18-year-old singer who will soon make an appearance on the Fox show Empire.
No word yet on the casting of the villains, Zordon, Alpha 5, or Tommy as of yet. Hopefully those castings will come soon. Saban’s Power Rangers is set to hit theaters January 13th, 2017.
