Freeform has announced its latest casting news via the Shadowhunters official website and social media pages. Lisa Berry, best known for her role as Billie in Supernatural, will be joining the group of demon hunters, vampires, warlocks, and werewolves as Luke’s sister, Sister Cleophas.

Her role in the show is a slight variation of the same character from the books. According to Darren Swimmer, Executive Producer of the show, “We’re excited about our new spin on the character Cleophas, who in the books was Luke’s mother. In the show she’s one of Luke’s sisters, a fierce, formidable presence and a woman of strong principles and conviction.” She will still be an Iron Sister, those women charged with making the Shadowhunters’ seraph blades.

While some fans were curious what this means for the rest of Luke’s family (Will anyone portray his mother? What about his sister Amatis?), most welcomed the new face as part of the Shadowhunters family. To clear up some of the confusion, Taylor Mallory, one of the writers on the show, clarified that Luke will have two sisters now and that the change was a strategic one.

Because Luke’s mother was mentioned in a previous episode as being an Iron Sister, it’s unclear as to whether Sister Cleophas will be an additional Iron Sister in Luke’s family or taking over that role in place of his mother.

Berry shared her excitement for her involvement with the show in a video posted in her casting announcement. “I’ve had so much fun with the Shadowhunter family, and I hope you guys love this season as much as I do,” she said.

If you want to see more of Berry’s projects, you can find her in Continuum as Nolan, The Colony as Nara, and in the upcoming Power Rangers movie as Candace Cranston, which will be in theaters March 24.

You can watch Shadowhunters on Mondays at 8/7c on Freeform, and all episodes are available on Freeform’s app and site. We post new recaps and reviews for the show every week, so be sure to check those out after each episode!

Kayce Taylor

Kayce Taylor nurtured a healthy love of video games from an early age. Growing up in small-town Missouri offered plenty of free time to play the likes of Kirby, Mario (of all varieties), 007, and more. Though she was raised in a Star Wars family, her husband showed her the undeniable power of Star Trek, and she's been a fan of both ever since. If she were only allowed to watch one show for the rest of her life, she would pick The Office without hesitation. She recently began exploring photography, and even more recently went to her first comicon. She loves sci-fi/fantasy and dreams of going to Hogwarts and/or meeting a Shadowhunter.
