Janina Gavankar Joins SLEEPY HOLLOW Cast
Ichabod Crane’s (Tom Mison) new partner is coming to Sleepy Hollow. I mean, Washington, D.C. She is coming to Sleepy Hollow, the show, which will no longer take place in Sleepy Hollow but in Washington. Janina Gavankar will be the Scully to his Mulder as they solve supernatural crimes from the Secret Service’s basement. Her character, named Diana (that’s Dana with an I) is described as a tough, ex-military officer who is now a Special Agent for Homeland Security. She replaces Nicole Beharie, who was Crane’s partner for the first three seasons but was killed off in an outrageous and surprising turn at the end of last season.
Although Janina Gavankar’s character will be skeptical of the supernatural, the actress is no stranger to it. She played a shapeshifter with the appropriate name of Luna Garza on True Blood for two seasons. She was Mckenna Hall on the first season of Arrow, a Starling City cop who was hunting the vigilante and dating Oliver Queen at the same time. She also played Leigh Turner on The Gates, which was about a gated community of people with supernatural secrets. Playing a Homeland Security Agent in an office that is specially designed to hunt down monsters does not seem like a stretch for her.
Has Ichabod found Abbie’s soul in a new body, as the lore of the Witnesses says he will? It’s hard to tell, and I’m sure not something they will lead with, if they even decide to use that plot line. I’m fairly certain that the undying connection between the two was something that was said to comfort grieving fans. However the studio said, “After her partner goes down in the line of duty, she and Crane will find common ground in their shared sense of loss. And the two of them will quickly realize they have another important point of connection — though not one anyone would expect at first.”
If Ichabod has found the new Witness and the new Witness has Abbie’s soul, it would have had to walk into an existing person. This makes sense, because Ichabod would be on his own for eighteen years if it went into a newborn. However, Diana is a single mom and has a daughter she is fiercely protective of. Diana doesn’t speak much about the girl’s father. Could she be the new Witness instead?
Lance Gross, who played Daniel Reynolds and Jessica Camacho, who was FBI agent Sophie Foster, have also left the show. There is no word yet as to whether Abbie Mills’ sister Jenny (Lyndie Greenwood) will still be on the show.
Sleepy Hollow will return in 2017. In the meantime, catch up on all our recaps here.
