GODZILLA Has A Date And Family To Terrorize

Godzilla finally has Legendary Films running, or is it the other way? After a slow start to the development of the sequel to their 2014 hit, Godzilla: King of Monsters now has a shooting date, release date, and a family to terrorize. Kyle Chandler (Bloodline) and Vera Farminga (Bates Motel) have been cast to play scientist parents to Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) as they try to survive the creature.

  Plot details are being kept secret. What is known is that Michael Doughtery (Krampus) will be directing from a script he wrote with Zach Shields. Originally, Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) was tied to do the follow up to his 2014 film, but walked away last year. Doughtery’s relationship with Legendary was on good enough terms after he headed up the writers room for MonsterVerse, that they hired him to replace Edwards.

Godzilla made a whopping $529 million worldwide and was a huge improvement from the last American Godzilla attempt in 1998. This was enough encouragement for Legendary Films to create a new cinematic universe around the monster, which includes this year’s Kong: Skull Island, which will be released March 10. Following Godzilla: King of Monsters will be an epic rematch between Godzilla and Kong, which is slated to be released on May 29, 2020.

Chandler is known for his Emmy nominated role as Coach Eric Taylor on Friday Night Lights. Currently he stars on Netflix’s Bloodline and was recently in Oscar winning Manchester by the Sea with Casey Affleck.

Farmiga is currently in the fifth and final season of A&E’s Bates Motel as the mother to villain Norman Bates.  Last year she reprised her role as paranormal investigator Lorraine Warren for the horror hit The Conjuring 2 and soon will play opposite Liam Neeson in The Commuter.

Brown’s breakthrough role in the Netflix show Stranger Things has proven the 12-year-old actress is an intense actress with her role as the telekinetic girl, Eleven.  She was nominated for both a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series.

Shooting for the film is slated to begin this summer in Atlanta, Georgia with a release date of March 22, 2019.
