Genre Represented Well at People’s Choice Awards

BANNER_News2013

Hosted by Anna Faris and Allison Janney, the People’s Choice Awards 2015 aired on CBS, originating from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The 41st annual ceremony was full of genre representation throughout the various categories, with many winners of interest to fandom.

Ben Affleck, who just wrapped shooting Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, won the Favorite Humanitarian award for his work with the Eastern Congo Initiative, an organization working to improve economic conditions in the African country. Through community-based initiatives and advocacy for better policies, EC is pushing for better living and working conditions in the region.

“It’s important for me to try my hand at philanthropy because I want to leave behind a record of someone who did more than just gobble up stuff for himself,” Affleck shared during the night. “I realize a life lived just for yourself is not much of a life.”

Co-star Amy Adams says, “The same qualities that make my friend Ben Affleck a phenomenal actor, director and writer are also what make him an extraordinary humanitarian. He puts his heart and soul into everything he does.”

Captain America star Chris Evans won Favorite Action Movie Actor, and he says that perhaps forty percent of the votes taking him to the top may have come from his mother. And he was at the the ready when Betty White won Favorite TV Icon, jumping up to escort her to the stage in true American Hero fashion.

In a similar vein, Robert Downey, Jr. — Favorite Movie Actor — quoted his son Exton: “I’m gonna eat you all up and you’re never going anywhere.” Downey being Downey, he also said, “I love people, I love movies, and I prefer people who love my movies.”

Other genre winners of the night: Kristin Kreuk, Jennifer Lawrence, Outlander, Beauty and the Beast, Maleficent, David Tennant. Listed here are the categories with most (or all) genre nominees and the winners.
