The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Walt Disney Pictures has tabled development of Tron 3 for the foreseeable future, according to insiders at the studio.

Despite Tron: Legacy making nearly $400 million worldwide, Disney found itself dealing with a full slate of productions to the point where the Tron sequel got crowded out.

Although the project had yet to be greenlit, development was progressing with original Tron director Joseph Kosinski set to direct a cast that would include Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde reprising their roles as Sam Flynn and Quorra.

“We had never greenlit the movie, but it was in development for some time,” said one Disney executive, discussing the sensitive decision to table the project. “Things in the queue got ahead of it and we have such a big slate out in front of it, we started to think, ‘Where does it go?’ And it’s a pretty big investment to make if you are not even sure when you are going to release it.”

The production was looking to shoot this fall, and there was a rumor Disney was considering the addition of Jared Leto to the cast.

Disney seems to be following its own trend, favoring live action reboots of their animated pictures in the wake of Maleficent and Cinderella, with new versions of Beauty and the Beast and Tinkerbell in the works along with new adaptations of The Jungle BookDumboPete’s Dragon, and Alice in Wonderland. Plus, there’s that new Pirates of the Caribbean sequel…

Fans of TRON will have to wait a little longer to find out just how Quorra adjusts to living in the real world.

End of line.
