Channing Tatum Closes Deal on GAMBIT
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Channing Tatum has solidified his deal to play Gambit in the upcoming Marvel production from 20th Century Fox.
Word had been circulating that Gambit was facing possible setbacks due to the possibility that Tatum would exit the project, which he’s also slated to co-produce. According to sources, one of the sticking points for Tatum and his representatives was compensation on the back end of his work, which could conceivably run into multiple pictures. Especially now that Hugh Jackman is almost done playing Wolverine, the Fox pictures need one or two anchor characters for future projects.
Tatum has been attached to the project for some time, rumored to have a connection for even longer. He also made a surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con during the Fox panel.
The character of Remy LeBeau, also known as Gambit, is a mutant with the ability to mentally create, control, and manipulate pure kinetic energy. Taylor Kitsch played the part in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Rupert Wyatt, who directed Fox’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, will direct Gambit. Josh Zetumer wrote the script, based on a treatment by Gambit co-creator Chris Claremont. Tatum, Reid Carolin, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg are producing.
