12 Monkeys Has Been Renewed for a Third Season
Fans can relax and take whatever the next two episodes dishes out to them because the show will be returning to Syfy after this season. Die hard fans were worried because of the lateness of the renewal announcement and the show’s low ratings.
Entertainment Weekly announced that Syfy has renewed the series for a 10 episode third season. 12 Monkeys, which is loosely based on the movie of the same name, follows survivors of a viral apocalypse as they turn to time travel to stop the virus and prevent the breakdown of civilization. They manage to delay the release of the virus and then discover a new threat, that the Witness and the Army of the Twelve Monkeys wants to destroy time itself. I am sure that that will not be the last turn of the plot as we go into the new season.
Every episode is full of multiple storylines, action, and drama as our heroes attempt to deal with causality, paradoxes and the nature of time. It’s brain candy for the intelligent mind, and not too hard on the eyes either. James Cole (Aaron Stanford), our chief time traveler, meets Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull), a virologist from the past, and together they try to stop the virus. Dr. Katarina Jones is our mad scientist who has created time travel and is still working to perfect it. Emily Hampshire plays Jennifer, a Primary, who sees forward and back and helps time think. Kirk Acevedo and Todd Stashwick also star in the series. It is produced by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett.
“Terry and the cast and crew have brought to life a rich world not confined by boundaries of time, with multi-dimensional characters whose motivations for saving the world are deeply personal and intensely relatable. It’s exactly the type of smart, on-the-edge-of-your-seat entertainment we want to bring to Syfy viewers,” Chris McCumber, president, entertainment networks, said when interviewed by EW.
It’s also exactly the kind of smart, edge of your seat show that we science fiction viewers want to watch.
12 Monkeys airs on Syfy on Mondays at 9 pm/8c. It will not be showing on Monday, July 4th due to Syfy’s annual marathon of The Twilight Zone.
