11/22/63 Announces Director, Additional Cast
The upcoming Hulu adaptation of Stephen King’s 11/22/63 now has a director.
Kevin MacDonald (The Last King of Scotland) has been tapped to direct and executive produce the first two episodes of the nine-episode series. J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television are adapting the best-selling time-travel novel that focuses on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963.
Bridget Carpenter, Stephen King, and J.J. Abrams are all on board as executive producers, and Carpenter has cast lead James Franco, Chris Cooper, and Tony Award winner Cherry Jones. Franco stars as high school English teacher Jake Epping, who travels back in time in an attempt to prevent the assassination in Dallas.
Scotland native MacDonald won the Academy Awards for the documentary One Day in September (1999), which covered the terrorist action at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany, in which Israeli athletes were held hostage by Palestinian terrorists.
