WALKING DEAD Spinoff Finds Lead

BANNER_News2013

Cliff Curtis is the first actor to be cast in AMC’s spinoff of The Walking Dead.

The show is yet to have an official title, although it’s being referenced by the name Cobalt. It will be set during the same time frame as TWD, but in a different location. Back in September, AMC announced it was moving forward with a pilot order from Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, and Dave Alpert. The new show will have Dave Erickson as executive producer and showrunner. Adam Davidson will direct the pilot.

Curtis (Gang Related) will play Sean Cabrera, a divorced teacher sharing custody of his son with ex-wife Andrea. He’s described as “a good man trying to do right by everyone in his life.” He leads an ensemble cast that will include Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey, who will play the children of Nancy Tomkins, a guidance counselor who works at the school with Sean.

The Tomkins role has yet to be cast. Sources say Fringe alum Anna Torv was among the actresses who read for the part, but reports are that she’s no longer being considered. AMC is said to be “currently still testing”.

In November, stories started to circulate about a casting call for extras in Pennsylvania, with casting calls showing up on CraigsList and other online access points. Those stories have since proven to be false, and the casting agency connected to them has been described as a company that frequently practices questionable tactics to attract new talent. Likely, the spinoff will shoot in the Atlanta area, just as The Walking Dead does.

Of course, if the show is set in Kansas City, we here at SciFi4Me would be happy to shoot some establishing shots for the show…
