Upgraded Nintendo Switch Announced

Nintendo has announced a new model of the standard Nintendo Switch today.

The new Switch model isn’t a massive upgrade from the original Switch – the only difference is the battery life. The new Nintendo Switch will be able to run between 4.5-9 hours, compared to the current model’s 2.5-6 hours.

According to Nintendo, the battery life will be dependent on the content running on the console.  Your current Nintendo Switch can run The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for about 3 hours. The upgraded Switch, however, will be able to run Breath of the Wild for 5 hours.

The updated Nintendo Switch will be available mid-August and will come in the same color options as the original Nintendo Switch. It will cost and function the same as the original Nintendo Switch, except with better battery and newer hardware.

The new Switch announcement comes days after Nintendo announced the Switch Lite, a version meant for players who exclusively use their Switch in handheld mode.

There have been rumors of Nintendo working on a upgraded Switch for some time now. While many are hoping a “pro-version” of the Nintendo Switch is coming, it is possible that this is the upgraded version. After the Switch Lite announcement, Nintendo made requests to make changes to their current Nintendo Switch models. Those changes are most likely the upgrades made to this model of the Switch.

As far as the rumored “Switch Pro” there aren’t many details. Doug Bowser, President and COO of Nintendo of America, said there would be no “Switch Pro” coming this year. There is still some hope for the future, but not in 2019.
