The Geekly with a Twist: October 19th-25th

Well, I’ve broken the cycle. Don’t blame me too much, I was averting the Apocalypse! Okay, so, not really…I’ve been sick this week. But, anyways, onward with the history!

October 19th, 1943: The Saga of the Recluse author L.E. Modesitt, Jr. is born in Denver, Colorado.

October 19th, 1966: An awesome man all around, the director of the first two Iron Man movies (as well as Cowboys and Aliens), Jon Favreau is born in New York City.

October 20th, 1977: Sam Witwer (of Being Human, US fame) is born in Glenview, Illinois.

October 20th, 1980: Niall Matter, known by fans of Eureka as Zane Donovan, is born in Ednomnton, Alberta.

October 21st, 1929: One of the greats, Ursula K. Le Guin is born in Berkeley, California.

October 22nd, 1938: Doc Brown, or at least the guy that plays him (and a number of other roles brilliantly), Christopher Lloyd is born in Stamford, Connecticut.

October 22nd, 2008: Chandrayaan-1, the first lunar orbiter launched by India, takes off from its pad on an island on the Southeastern coast of the country.

October 24th, 1915: The one and only Bob Kane (the creator of Batman, of course), is born in New York City.

And, of course, there’s a lot more that’s happened this week in geek history, so be sure to check out:

So, for a quick but appropriate Twist on your week, how about a Batman(original drink recipe, made by yours truly)?

  • 2 parts black vodka (made by Blavod)
  • 2 parts orange juice (preferably blood orange juice, but it’s harder to find)
  • 1 part lemon juice
  • 1 dash grenadine

Shake all ingredients over ice and serve with a lemon garnish!

And, of course, to Garnish your week, I’ll flip it to something a little NSFW. I’ve featured them before, and we at the site have a love of them, the awesome Damsels of Dorkington have a new video out to showcase a day in the life of the only member of the crew to have hair made of yarn (well, it was the nicest way to put it). In case you haven’t seen the rest of their stuff, here’s a good start. You obviously need to see the rest, though. Enjoy!

So, folks, sorry about the delay again…but, I mean, I was really…okay, no excuses (no matter how goofy I can come up with). I’ll catch you all next week (hopefully on time). Until then, geek on!
