Syfy Gets Spooky

The Sci Fi Network  The network formerly known as Sci Fi  Syfy has announced their “31 Days of Halloween” event in New York city, co-sponsored by Dodge and Hershey, and integrating on-air, online and “on-the-ground” elements to promote the network’s programming throughout the month.

Events will lead up to the live broadcast of “Ghost Hunters” on Halloween. This year, the team will be at Pennhurst Asylum in Pennsylvania, a former state mental institution that’s been abandoned for years and is reputedly one of the most haunted locales in the country.

“Ghost Hunters” hosts Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango will be at the Universal Orlando Resort’s Halloween Horror Nights on October 6. They’ll have a Q&A session followed by autographs at the Pantages Theatre, part of Halloween Horror Nights 21.

Partnering with NYC & Company, the city’s tourism and marketing organization, Syfy will have traveling “Imagination Stations” moving throughout the city and offering opportunities for arts & crafts, a photo booth complete with props, and the “Face Off Face Painting” that offers people a chance to get made up as their favorite monster.

In addition, Syfy has launched the Syfy City Guide NYC app for the iPhone, showcasing the top Halloween-themed attractions in New York.

Sister network Chiller will sponsor the Nightmare: Fairy Tales haunted house, and will be programming Halloween-centric movies leading up to the debut of an original special, “Chiller 13: Horror’s Creepiest Kids” on October 28.

Syfy’s weekend programming blocks will follow the theme as well:

The Syfy Saturday Original Movies kick off with The Terror Beneathon Saturday, October 8 at 9PM,as Adrian Pasdar (Heroes) battles monstrous tree roots from the Garden of Eden which are threatening to destroy the world.

On Saturday, October 29 at 9PM,Golden Globe winner Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction, Mission Impossible, Day of the Dead) stars in Zombie Apocalypseas the leader of a small group of survivors fighting their way across America after a zombie plague wipes out 90 percent of the world’s population.

Also as part of “31 Days of Halloween” Syfy has announced that “Sanctuary” stars Amanda Tapping and Robin Dunne will kick off season 4 with a meet-&-greet appearance at the NBC Experience Store inside Rockefeller Plaza this Friday the 7th and 10am Eastern.
