SPIDER-MAN Adds Zendaya to Cast
Deadline reports that actress/singer Zendaya (Disney Channel’s Shake it Up! and K.C. Undercover) has been added to the cast of the Sony/Marvel reboot of Spider-Man, starring Tom Holland.
According to the report, her casting follows a quiet process that involved a number of actresses. She’ll play a character named Michelle, but no other details are available officially.
Could she be playing Michelle Gonzales? It’s likely that over Amp or Michelle Balters, both mutants in the Marvel universe.
In the comics, Gonzales is the sister of Peter Parker’s roommate, police officer Vincent Gonzales, who was arrested for his part of the “Spider-Tracer Killer” conspiracy. Her first appearance was in Amazing Spider-Man: Extra! #3 (May, 2009) and her last appearance was in Amazing Spider-Man #648 (January, 2011).
While not a romantic interest for Parker, the two did have an inadvertent one night stand after drinking too much. She eventually moved back to her home town of Chicago.
The new Spider-Man will be released on July 7, 2017, and it’s produced by Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige. Tom Holland will make his first appearance as the wall-crawler in Captain America: Civil War.
