LIFEFORCE To Be Resurrected on TV

lifeforce[via Deadline] — Ringleader Studios has acquired the rights to the novel The Space Vampires, Colin Wilson’s 1976 novel which was adapted into the movie Lifeforce nine years later. The new Lifeforce adaptation will be a television series, along with a graphic novel and video game.

Lifeforce is about a trio of humanoid “space vampires” who make their way to Earth after being discovered in their derelict spacecraft (which was fashioned after an artichoke). Once on Earth, they unleash chaos and terror as they absorb the “life force” out of people in an effect that can be described as “soul sucking”. Of course, being aliens fashioned to look like humans, they don’t even consider the notion of putting on clothes…

Olivia Hussey (everyone’s version of Juliet in high school — you saw it) was originally attached to the film, co-written by Alien scribe Dan O’Bannon and directed by Tobe Hooper, but she left the project after mistakenly thinking she’d been cast as the “Space Girl” and would have to spend most of the film nude.

John Gielgud was also attached to the project at one point, but was replaced by Patrick Stewart. A number of other well-known names came and went in the development of the movie.

Ex-Electronic Gaming Monthly editor and Ringleader Studios founder Steve Harris will exec produce.
