Harry Potter A.R. Mobile Game “Wizards Unite” Gets a New Trailer

Fans of Harry Potter — even the Muggles — will get to dive into the battle between good and evil with a new augmented reality game from WB Games.

WB’s Pottermore banner, Portkey Games, has revealed the launch trailer for their new mobile game, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. The game is set to release on June 20th, 2019. You play as a “new recruit of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force”. You must defeat the forces of evil to stop an event known as “the Calamity”, that threatens the existence of Wizards everywhere.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with the genre, augmented reality (AR) games are a genre where the player’s location in the real world affects the game. As such, the game is very similar to Pokemon Go, in the sense that the player must walk around in the real world to get to the resources they need to progress. Combat is focused around dragging your finger on the screen to recreate the wand motions that the Harry Potter franchise is known for.

Players will also be able to encounter iconic characters from the Harry Potter series in a variety of different ways. It even has a level up system, one that appears to expand your inventory as you progress. The game also has collectibles in the form of completing paintings that are missing objects and animals.

Whether the game is going to have the same level of success remains to be seen, but it definitely looks like it’ll satisfy Harry Potter fans, both old and new.
