WONDER WOMAN Loses Director: Creative Differences
Director Michelle MacLaren has left the solo Wonder Woman project over “creative differences”.
Warner Bros. issued a statement that said they and MacLaren “…have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together.” The project is in the midst of pre-production, with Gal Gadot set to star as the Amazon Princess and Jason Fuchs crafting the script. Sources tell Variety that four actors were about to test for the role of Steve Trevor — apparently not Scott Eastwood’s role in Suicide Squad as rumored. Where this break leaves the production is unclear.
MacLaren is a veteran director of The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. This was to be her big screen directorial debut. As a producer, MacLaren’s track record includes Breaking Bad and The X-Files.
In the wake of her departure from Warners, The Wrap is reporting the rumor that MacLaren is now being courted to direct Marvel’s Captain Marvel, which will feature the Carol Danvers version of the character.
Wonder Woman is set to hit screens June 23, 2017.
