The Geekly with a Twist: October 14th-20th

Hey all…sorry about the slacking last week on my extras, but you all know how it goes…just when I get something going something else breaks.  Does somebody want to trade me luck?

Anyways, onward with the history!

October 14th, 1968: The first live telecast from a manned US spacecraft is transmitted.  The crew onboard Apollo 7 enjoyed this fun first.

October 15th, 1997:  The Cassini-Huygens probe launches from Cape Canaveral.  Since 2004, it has been sending back pictures and data about Saturn and its moons.

October 17th, 1933: Albert Einstein, after leaving Germany, moves to Princeton, NJ.

October 18th, 1931: Thomas Edison passes away at the age of 84.

October 18th, 1989: The space shuttle Atlantis launches on a mission to deploy the Galileo space probe bound for Jupiter.

October 18th, 2006: Microsoft released IE 7.0.  (And the geek world was unimpressed. >.>)

October 20th, 1882: The brilliant man who was underrated in his lifetime, Bela Lugosi (the man who would often portray Dracula) is born in what is now Romania.

October 20th, 1958: He who would later don the sword and boots of the Heir of Isildur who would become the King of Gondor (okay, done ranting…my Ringer card is showing) aka Aragorn, Viggo Mortensen, is born in New York City.

For your weekly Twist

You know. a while back I was playing “let’s experiment” with my booze shelf (yes, I have a full booze shelf…actually, it’s a Captain Morgan coffin that is used for a store display that is overflowing…once I’m in my new place I’ll have to share pictures) and I came up with a drink that, as I put it on Twitter, was “blood-colored” and “tastes fruity.”  I’ve been unsure of what to call it, but I loved how it turned out (you have no idea how hard it actually is to make something look even blood colored…the consistency is a whole different issue) so I snapped a picture and saved it in the memory banks for another time.  And, now, my dear readers, is that time…I present to you, in honor of one heck of a man, The Lugosi.

The Lugosi

1 part vodka

2 parts Pama or pomegranate liqueur

1 part Creme de Cassis

Add cubed ice to a rocks glass, pour ingredients over ice, and stir.  Garnish is wholly unneeded but, if you’re looking for something a little halloweeny you can attach gummy bats, hands, or other ghoulish candies found this time of year.  Be creative!

Okay, so I think it’s time to get with the theme.  Furthermore, I’m thinking Annaleigh’s Find of the Week will be something along the lines of “The Weekly Garnish,” “The Weekly Umbrella,” or “The Weekly Swizzle Stick…” I’m even open for suggestions!  So take your pick!  The winning vote will be the new name of FotW.  Until then, let me just say, if you haven’t been over to our YouTube channel…you need to go!

It’s not necessarily a new find to me, but I hope some of you will find something new!

There are back episodes of Dustin and Molly: Reviews for Humans, exclusive interviews, and special content.  Go check it out!

Until next week, geek on!
