SMALLVILLE’s Allison Mack Pleads Guilty to Racketeering Charges

Nearly one year after her arrest, Smallville alumnus Allison Mack has entered a plea in the NXIVM case.

Mack appeared in court to plead guilty to racketeering conspiracy and racketeering acts of state law extortion and forced labor, telling the court she is prepared to take responsibility for the acts in which she was involved. “I know I can and will be a better person,” Mack said.

Mack was arrested last year on charges of alleged sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy, and forced labor conspiracy. The United States Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of New York released a statement at the time outlining the charges. “As alleged in the indictment, Allison Mack recruited women to join what was purported to be a female mentorship group that was, in fact, created and led by Keith Raniere,” stated U. S. Attorney Richard P. Donoghue.  “The victims were then exploited, both sexually and for their labor, to the defendants’ benefit.  This Office and our law enforcement partners are committed to prosecuting  predators who victimize others through sex trafficking and forced labor.”

According to court filings, Raniere established a series of purported self-help programs under the umbrella organization known as NXIVM, based in Albany, New York. Within that organization, Raniere allegedly set up a secret society called “Dominus Obsequious Sororium,” which operated several levels of women “slaves” owing services to upper level “masters”. Mack was in the first level of the organization immediately below Raniere. As a pre-condition to joining DOS, women were required to hand over “collateral” that included compromising information about themselves, which could then be released if the women failed to comply with expectations. The women were also branded as part of their membership in DOS. Several were forced into sexual activities with Raniere.

In court, Mack admitted to obtaining compromising information on two women — listed as Jane Doe #5 and Jane Doe #8 — at Raniere’s direction. “Through it all, I believed Keith Raniere’s intentions were to help people,” she said. “I was wrong.”

Mack also said that she had joined NXIVM at a time when she was searching for a community, and she believed the people in the organization were trying to be better people. “Looking back at what I have done the past 10 years,” she said, “I have come to the conclusion that I must take full responsibility for my conduct and that’s why I am pleading guilty today.”

Each of the two charges are felonies that carry a maximum sentence of 20 years. With the plea deal, Mack avoids the charges of sex trafficking and wire fraud conspiracy.

Her sentencing has been set for September 11 at noon.
