Katee Sackhoff, best known for her roles in Battlestar Gallactica, Riddick, and Oculus has been confirmed as the lead, Mackenzie “Mack” Wilson, in the new sci-fi thriller Origin Unknown. Content Media is handling the worldwide sales and UK-based Coffee & Cigarettes will be executive producers.

Hasraf “HaZ” Dullul, an award nominated visual effects artist (Hellboy II, The Dark Knight), will be directing. He recently signed on to also direct the Robin Hood reboot, Robin Hood 2058. He also wrote the story that the screenplay for Origin Unknown, which is being written by Gary Hall, is based on.

Origin Unknown takes place after the first manned mission to Mars ends in a deadly crash, and mission controller Mackenzie “Mack” Wilson (Sackhoff) is summoned to assist an artificial intelligence system – A.R.T.I. Their investigation uncovers a mysterious object under the surface of Mars, leading to a discovery that could change the future of our planet as we know it.

Content’s Jamie Carmichael said, “We love the elevated Sci-Fi space, and Origin Unknown has all the elements to succeed – a strong high concept idea, a great cast, a great creative team and a very impressive new directing talent in HaZ.  We’re really excited to bring this to the market.”

Adam Sculthorp (aerial unit on Promethus, Spectre) will be taking the role of director of photography, and Territory Studio (The Martian, Guardians of the Galaxy) will be handling the VFX with Paddy Eason (28 Weeks Later, Harry Potter and the Prison of Azkaban) the VFX Supervisor.

Principal photography begins later this month in London, UK with no official release date announced yet.

Kayce Taylor

Kayce Taylor nurtured a healthy love of video games from an early age. Growing up in small-town Missouri offered plenty of free time to play the likes of Kirby, Mario (of all varieties), 007, and more. Though she was raised in a Star Wars family, her husband showed her the undeniable power of Star Trek, and she's been a fan of both ever since. If she were only allowed to watch one show for the rest of her life, she would pick The Office without hesitation. She recently began exploring photography, and even more recently went to her first comicon. She loves sci-fi/fantasy and dreams of going to Hogwarts and/or meeting a Shadowhunter.
