New TRANSFORMERS Projects at Paramount
Word comes via Variety that Paramount Pictures is developing two new scripts for the Transformers franchise.
Following the success of the smaller-budget Bumblebee, the studio looks to be taking the same approach with these two new scripts. One will be written by James Vanderbilt and the other by Joby Harold.
Vanderbilt is an executive producer on Altered Carbon, which just announced a release date for season two. He’s also produced Zodiac, Suspiria, and The House with a Clock in Its Walls. As a writer, he’s contributed to The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as well as Zodiac, White House Down, and Independence Day: Resurgence.
Harold’s writing credits are not as extensive, but they include Army of the Dead, which is in post-production. He’s also worked on Awake and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. As a producer, he’s been attached to Robin Hood, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, and Edge of Tomorrow, among other projects.
Bumblebee hit theaters in 2018, scoring nearly $468 million worldwide off a budget of $135m, according to Box Office Mojo. Overall, the franchise has pulled in over $4 billion worldwide since the first film was released in 2007.
No details on plot, but there’s potential that these two scripts could serve as the jumping off point for different story threads to expand the movie universe. And there’s still the possibility that Hasbro will move forward with its shared universe plan. This would include Transformers, G.I. Joe, Rom, M.A.S.K., Visionaries, and Micronauts.
