Founded in 1965, the SFWA is an organization for published authors and industry professionals. The Nebula Awards are presented to recognize the best literary and dramatic works of speculative fiction. The Nebulas are the peer-determined awards where the Hugo Awards are the fan-chosen awards. SFWA membership is open to authors, artists, editors, and industry professionals who meet eligibility requirements.

The SFWA was originally the Science Fiction Writers of America, later changed to include Fantasy. Founder Damon Knight was the 13th recipient of the Grand Master Award, which was named after him following his death in 2002. Earlier this week, the SFWA announced that C.J. Cherryh would receive the 32nd Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award at this year’s event, which will take place in Chicago May 12-15, 2016.
